Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world,
and they that dwell therein. KJV
This is the heart of the matter, any matter for anyone seeking to know the Living God: we must come to have a personal revelation of who God is. No matter where we find ourselves in our walk with God, no matter what anyone else has said, no matter what we've experienced-thought was true, believed was true, taught was true, our foundational belief system can only be based upon our individual and very personal revelation of Him. He's given us His Word, His Spirit-His very Presence-to be our personal teacher and in the agreement and unity of these we can surely rest and rely. Derek Prince cogently expresses this spiritual truth in a devotional which I plan to share here.
I've written in the past (with limited understanding) on the subject of the other side of the boat or the other side of the lake where Jesus instructed His disciples to go, and how it looks/feels like on the other side. Since then I've discovered more about why the net broke when Peter used an old one instead of casting out his best nets, and what it's feels like when traveling to the other side of the lake in unfamiliar territory in the greatest storm (this writer has) ever experienced. During times like these when life's storms threaten to sink our boat with us in it we can better understand why His disciples asked Jesus, "...don't you care that we perish." Mark 4:38. What does this have to do with the subject at hand? Well, it has everything to do with it. In times like these we need an Anchor to our soul, One who will hold onto us when our strength is exhausted, when we're too overwhelmed to hold onto anything in our own strength. This is when we not only need to know our God but to experience His help in very real, very practical, very personal ways. This is what the subject is all about- the need for having a personal, intimate knowledge of Him.
So far, I've found Him to be faithful and a very personal Help in time of need, and I trust Him to be so in an increasing manner from this day forth. I've also discovered a new favorite scripture which I've personalized, which, if you stop by here from time to time you'll probably see quite often. I'm still learning to trust the truth of this particular Word daily in ways I never have or had to in the past while the ground beneath my feet still feels unsettled. I trust you'll be blessed indeed by this scripture which He made alive to me and is a very real source of help and strength to me as well as by what Derek Prince wrote about the necessity for a personal revelation of who God Is.
Psalm 78:72 NASB
... He shepherds me according to the integrity of his heart,
And guides me with his skillful hands (emphasis and personalization, mine).
